An integrated healthcare system project, AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (ATM) Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) has emphasized the need for combined efforts on bridging the healthcare challenges in the country.
The project being implemented by ACOMIN emerged as a vital force pushing for accountability, improved service delivery, and sustainable solutions.
At a media briefing in Kaduna, Mr. Abel Yahaya Hayas, the State Programme Officer C19 Response Mechanism, called for employment of more professional manpower to argument shortages, commodities stock-outs and crumbling infrastructure.
Hayas highlighted that achievements through community-led monitoring across five Local Government Areas have been recorded and need to sustain the efforts.
He called on stakeholders to ensure provision of essential drug and test kit stock-outs, repeated shortages of HIV test kits, antimalarial drugs, and rapid diagnostic tools have disrupted HIV, TB, and malaria services.
According to him, patients either travel far in search of alternatives or abandon care altogether, risking preventable disease complications and community spread.
The Manager also underscored the importance of providing more infrastructure in to argument the decline of facility decay, comprising leaking roofs, cracked walls, poor ventilation, non-functional toilets, and unreliable power supply threaten safety and infection control.
” Some facilities lack proper storage for drugs. These conditions lower patient turnout and undermine confidence in public health systems.
” Despite the challenges, 2025 witnessed notable progress driven by ACOMIN’s collaboration with communities, facility managers and local authorities.
” During the year, ambulance and supplied essential equipment in PHC Zakari Isah, Kaduna North were ensured,” he said.
According to him, healthcare facilities in Dakachi, Tudun Wada, Chukun and Bayan Dutse were removed to improve safety and functionality.
” The interventions obtained totalled ₦12,850,350, was a demonstration of ACOMIN’s commitment to strengthening primary healthcare across Kaduna.
” These investments have boosted staff morale, improved community confidence, enhanced infection prevention, and expanded access to quality HIV, TB, and malaria services.
” They have also deepened community ownership, an essential ingredient for sustainability, ” he added.
The Manager further solicited for increased awareness and community engagement to promote transparency and accountability in health spending.
He urged stakeholders to join hands in addressing the persistent gaps in health service delivery, misconceptions through ijcreay advocacy, partnership, and community ownership, health facilities can be transformed into reliable hubs of care.
