Abducted Police DPO Regains Freedom After Seven Days Captivity

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State, Aliyu Ibrahim Ishaq, has finally regained freedom after spending about seven days in his kidnappers’ den.
A Police source in Benin disclosed that the rescue of Ishaq, who is a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) was aided by the arrest of some suspects that eventually volunteered some information which assisted the rescue team in freeing the abducted officer.
According to the source, with the information extracted from the arrested suspects, the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Philip Ogbadu, immediately swung into action, ordering that the bush along Fugar-Agenebode Road that Ishaq was kidnapped on Friday be thoroughly combed and this led to the successful rescue of the officer
The kidnappers ferried Ishaq away around Ise River, along old Auchi–Ekperi-Agenebode Road, while his police orderly, who was in the same vehicle with him, escaped unhurt.
In the process, the kidnappers later contacted the family of the police officer and demanded N50 million as a ransom payment.
However, the State Police Command is yet to officially confirm the rescue story, and efforts at contacting its spokesman, Bello Kotongs, were unfruitful before the report went to press.
