The Kano Citizens for Development and Education (CDE), a civil society organization, has strongly criticized Justice Simon Amobeda, a federal judge in Kano, for consistently ruling against the Kano state government.

Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya, CDE’s convener, accused Justice Amobeda of undermining democratic processes and disrespecting the state’s culture and tradition.

CDE’s reaction follows Justice Amobeda’s ruling against the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), prohibiting local government elections.

Waiya argued that this decision contradicts the Supreme Court’s directive to hold elections before October’s end and thwarts democracy.

The group claims certain elements within Kano exploit the situation to advance their interests using Justice Amobeda.

Waiya emphasized the government’s significant obstacles from the judiciary, hindering development plans.

He alleged Justice Amobeda intentionally delayed judgment to coincide with a favorable state high court ruling, blocking the electoral commission’s operations.

CDE warned Justice Amobeda of accountability for consequences arising from his actions and urged the Chief Judge to transfer him out of Kano.

They cautioned President Bola Tinubu to ensure the rule of law prevails, especially considering his 2027 ambitions.

Waiya criticized Justice Amobeda for delivering judgment on an Islamic holiday, disregarding cultural sensitivities and sparking tensions in Kano.

This situation raises concerns about the judicial system’s integrity and its impact on democratic processes.
