To this end, the council expressed it’s deep concern about the growing trend of belittling Nigeria’s security challenges by politicizing them, as demonstrated by false allegations against Senator Shehu Buba Umar of complicity in banditry acts.

The Nigeria Shariah council while reacting to the allegation against the Senator, noted that accusing individuals who are actively working to combat insecurity, not only distracts from the real issue at hand, but also weakens the collective resolve to address these pressing concerns.

The Supreme Shariah Council in a press statement signed by its Secretary General, Nafi’u Baba-Ahmad made available to the press in Bauchi, strongly caution against the politicisation of insecurity to undermine national unity and the progress well-meaning Nigerians are making towards peace.

Malam Baba-Ahmad said that it is the believe of the Shariah Council that Senator Buba Umar’s firm stance on security issues proves his unwavering commitment to ensuring peace and security for all Nigerians.

He explained that through collaborative efforts with the security agencies, Senator Buba has ensured that critical resources are allocated to areas most affected by banditry, and equally pushed for better coordination among the nation’s intelligence agencies to improve the detection and dismantling of bandit networks.

The Supreme Council for Shariah therefore expressed it’s deepest concern by what it described as “Unpatriotic Trend” of politicizing the current security challenges in the country, by those whose responsibility to work towards addressing them.

The council observed that it appeared some politicians are willing to adopt Machiavellian tactics in settling personal political scores even if it undermines efforts to address the nation’s security challenges.

Council noted that the most recent, but “Unfounded and Malicious” allegations against Senator Shehu Buba Umar, the senator representing Bauchi South Senatorial district, was the accusation of his involvement in sponsoring banditry.

The Shariah Council Secretary General described the allegation as not only baseless, but also a dangerous attempt to distract those responsible from attending to the security challenges facing the nation.

“The Council knows Senator Shehu Buba as a distinguished personality with a well-documented record of contribution to national security and countering banditry since the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari”, the statement said.

“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Buba has been at the forefront of legislative efforts to combat insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity plaguing our country. His work with security agencies has helped develop counter-insurgency
strategies that are already yielding positive results”.

Also describing Senator Buba as an advocate for national security and humanitarian causes, the statement recalled that the Senator Buba has been an outspoken advocate for strengthened security policies, that commit to both kinetic and non-kinetic measures.

This, council secretary general said, has backed up with decisive legislative actions aimed at addressing the root causes of insecurity, saying Buba’s dedication to ending banditry has led to his active involvement in several key national initiatives focused on enhancing intelligence, border security, and community policing.
