A prominent Borno indigene, Professor Adam Abba-Aji, currently serving as Chief Medical Director at one of Canada’s leading hospitals, has extended significant humanitarian support to flood victims in Borno State.
Professor Abba-Aji, alongside a delegation from Canada, visited the Borno State Government House in Maiduguri, where they delivered donations worth N75 million. The donations aim to assist families displaced by recent floods. Additionally, the delegation presented a proposal to construct 50 housing units for the flood-displaced, pending support from the Canadian government.
Professor Abba-Aji is a renowned psychiatrist specializing in young adult mental health and a Clinical Professor at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Alberta, Edmonton. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK), the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the American Psychiatric Association, and the Royal Society of Medicine.
His research primarily focuses on the trajectories of mental illness among young adults, early psychosis, mood disorders, and the development of mental health services. His academic achievements include a Doctorate from University College Dublin (2007–2009) and a Master’s from the University of Maastricht (2005–2007).
Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, where Professor Abba-Aji is based, was founded in 1923 and has trained thousands of doctors in its nearly 100 years of operation.
