Zulum constitutes a technical committee to determine cause of Alau Dam collapse

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has constituted a committee to examine and ascertain the cause of the collapse of Alau Dam which resulted in the flooding of Maiduguri Metropolis and its surrounding local government areas.

A part of the dam collapsed on September 10 causing severe flooding that displaced nearly 2 million people and destroyed several properties.

The dam was constructed between 1984 and 1986 to provide water for irrigation and domestic use for inhabitants of Maiduguri and its environs.

The secretary to Borno State Government, Alhahji Bukar Tijani, in a statement on Friday night, announced the committee to comprise the following persons;

ix. Special Adviser to His Excellency on Security – Member

The statement added that the committee would be inaugurated on Saturday at 2:00 pm in the council chamber of the government house.
