Cattle Traders Sue Abia State Over Market Residence Rights

Cattle traders at Umuchieze Garki cattle market in Abia State have taken legal action against the state government’s plan to convert the market into a non-residential area.

Despite government efforts to transform the market, traders are fighting to maintain their living arrangements.

Led by spokesperson Buba Kedemure, they’ve filed a lawsuit (No. HUM/9/2024) against state officials, including the Commissioner for Lands and the Attorney General.

The court will hear their plea for an interim injunction on March 13, 2024.
