Jonathan Denies Sacking Sanusi Over Missing $49.8bn Allegation

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has firmly denied suspending former Central Bank Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi over the controversial claim that $49.8bn went missing from the government’s coffers.

Speaking during a book launch in Abuja, Jonathan clarified that Sanusi’s removal was due to queries from the Financial Reporting Council, not his whistleblowing.

Sanusi, now Emir Muhammad Sanusi II, had alleged that he was “constructively dismissed” for raising concerns about oil revenue discrepancies in 2013, a claim Jonathan rejected, emphasizing that such a large sum could not have vanished without significant consequences.
