Peace: NGO canvases for community dialogue among rural dwellers, climate change awareness

Save the Child Initiative (STCI) and Jireh Doo Foundation (JDF) have commenced community dialogue toward promoting peaceful coexistence among divers groups in Sokoto state.

Newsmen reports that the activity was supported by International Alert in commemoration of the 2024 International Day of Peace in Asara community of Gwadabawa local government area.

Addressing the gathering, STCI Programme Officer, Mr Abdulhamid Buhari emphasized the importance of promoting a culture of peace in the society where every child can grow up safely and thrive.

Bubari stressed that peace is not just the absence of conflict but also creating an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and heard.

He revealed that STCI and JDF through the funding from International Alert have been working on peace building initiatives and conflict resolution with a focus on impacts of climate change.

He said the theme ” Cultivating a Culture of Peace” was coined to bring together number of community members, youth, and leaders on promoting unity and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking also, District Head of Asara, Alhaji Musa Sarkin Gobir-Adiya, highlighted the significance of peace in building stronger, more resilient communities.

Sarkin Gobir-Adiya urged citizens to respect individuals and group values, understand their differences and respects of occupations as Almighty created human beings to undertake different livelihood businesses.

Newsmen reports that the activity featured discussions, 3-kilometer road walk to sensitizes people on importance of harmonious relationship, tolerance, peaceful coexistence and effects on climate change.
