Farmers in Katsina State have been advised to avoid adulterating their produce when taking it to market, in a bold appeal made by Rt. Hon. Yau Umar Gwajo Gwajo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs and Chairman of the Katsina State Chapter of the All Farmers Association.
Speaking at a meeting organized by the Himma Agricultural Initiative at the Saidu Barda Old Government House, Gwajo Gwajo stressed that the integrity of agricultural products is key to the state’s transformation under the leadership of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, CON.
Gwajo-Gwajo highlighted that the government is ready to support farmers and position Katsina as an agrarian hub, but urged commodity associations to lay a solid foundation by managing their affairs responsibly.
He suggested that associations could even create their laws to be passed by the state assembly to strengthen their operations.
The President of Himma Agricultural Initiative, represented by Secretary General Mal Muhammad S. Muhammad, revealed that the association has started producing improved Cowpea across four hectares, to be sold at subsidized rates to support food production and youth employment.
Sarkin Noma, Mal Alto Daura, expressed gratitude on behalf of farmers and called on the state government for continued support to maximize the benefits for farmers across the state.
