Bauchi Senator, Buba Engages 2, OOO Youth, Women In Dry Season Farming

Over 2, 000 Across Seven Local Government Areas Comprising Bauchi south senatorial district were Monday empowered with agricultural grain hybrid seedlings preparatory to the forthcoming dry season farming to boost agricultural production in their respective communities.

Presenting the highly quality seedlings to the beneficiaries at a colourful ceremony held at Pali Hotel in Bauchi Monday, the Senator representing the district, Senator Shehu Buba Umar said that it is part of his agricultural programme of engaging the youths and women in fruitful agricultural ventures.

Senator Buba Umar explained that the dry season farming project would not only enhanced agricultural output, but also curb the waves of ravaging hunger now bedeviling the people, as well as ensuring food security for the state and the country at large.

The Senator was represented at the occasion by his Legislative Aide, Hon. Maijama’a Mato, who urged the beneficiaries to make the best of the opportunity afforded them not only to fend for a living, but equally for self-reliance, and economic prosperity.

Hon. Maijama’a Mato explained that the project become a reality in collaboration with Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Ilorin and in conjunction with Pacificmate Global Concepts LTD.

The General Manager of the  Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute, Ilorin, Mr. Abdullatif Nuruddeen has earlier said that the seedlings included maize, rice, soghum, soya beans and ordinary bean of high quality.

Mr. Nuruddeen explained that  each of the five different grain seedlings has a package of 420 bags, thereby giving a total of 2, 100 bags for the over 2, 000 beneficiaries in the seven local government areas of the Bauchi south senatorial district

The Institute General Manager however warned the beneficiaries against selling the grains seedlings without necessarily crediting it to agricultural production of the variety commodities for their benefits and the society in general.
Hassan Gaji is another aide of the senator who revealed that each of the 2, 000 beneficiaries would get a number of ten bags variety of the grain seedlings, and called on them and the generality of the district constituents at large to continue praying for the senator to achieve his set goals and objectives.

A beneficiary of the programme, Haruna Shu’aibu Burwat, assured the senator of making the best use of the seedlings, saying “We would not relent in giving the senator all necessary to support and cooperation in achieving his laudable programmes and projects.

Beneficiaries of the senator’s dry season farming project would apart from benefitting of the hybrid grains seedlings distribution, would also be logistically supported with cash to facilitate their dry season farming.
