NAFDAC Warns against buying drugs affected by flood in Maiduguri

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned residents of Maiduguri and environs against buying drugs that have been contaminated by the recent flooding which ravaged many parts of the city.

The North East Director General of the Agency, Kenneth Azikiwe who gave the warning during a press briefing at the Maiduguri Zonal office on Wednesday said the agency has embarked on the seizure and destruction of drugs that were affected by the flood to prevent a more dangerous public health emergency in the state.

He said the Director General of NAFDAC, Mrs Christianna Mojisola Adeyeye directed the evacuation of the damaged drugs and other regulated products to prevent a bigger and more dangerous public health emergency in the state from the market

According to him, beginning from 17th, September, 2024, NAFDAC officials from Borno, Yobe and Gombe states began the evacuation of drugs from the market which will continue untill all the damaged drugs in shops and warehouses are evacuated

He said the excercise was supported by the Borno state Government through the office of DPS of the state Ministry of health and PCN

They called on the public to report anyone found sun drying drugs to NAFDAC, while noting that Consumers are required to check drug products for wet packaging and mud stains on the product

According to him, NAFDAC remains committed to ensuring that only safe, good quality and efficacious drugs are consumed Nationwide

While sympathizing with the victims, the DG said that the entire management of NAFDAC condole with the people of Borno state as they rebuild and recover from the tragedy.
