PDP Remains Only Alternative for Good Governance – NWC Says

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday in Bauchi rose from it’s meeting with the acknowledgement of the significant role it played in shaping the country’s democracy, and national development as evidenced in it’s 16 years of responsible governance, economic growth and infrastructure development.

According to the party, even in it’s current role as the primary opposition, the PDP continues to advocate for good governance, economic recovery and social justice, ensuring that the aspirations of Nigerians for a better future are realized through constructive opposition.

A press statement of the meeting by the party’s National Working Committee NWC in Bauchi, Chaired by the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum and Governor of Bauchi state, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed discussed a number of issues pertaining the party.

The statement reiterated the need
for internal cohesion and respect for the party’s structures, while endorsing ongoing efforts to reconcile internal disputes, especially as regards crisis in Rivers state, and the need to have a substantive national leadership of the party, being craved by the North central zone of the country.

Representatives of the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) was led to Bauchi by the National Legal Adviser of the party, Kamaluddeen Ajibade Adeyemi SAN, that included National Treasurer, Financial Secretary, National Women Leader, National Publicity Secretary, and North East National Vice Chairman of the party.

The statement signed by the Director General of the PDP Governors Forum, Dr. Emmanuel Agbo, emphasized the importance of unity and adherence to the founding principles of the PDP, including inclusiveness, respect for the rule of law and the party’s constitution, stressing that the PDP remains a beacon of hope for Nigerians.

Dr. Agbo reaffirmed the party’s commitment to it’s zoning arrangement of positions in the National Working Committee (NWC) with a view of upholding the provisions of the party’s constitution so as to ensure balance, equity and inclusiveness.

The meeting however expressed dissatisfaction with the recent events in Rivers state, where attempts to disrupt the party processes violated the PDP Constitution, as the arbitrary formation of caretaker committee and the subsequent congress undermined the party’s unity and democratic values.

The statement said that the PDP Governors, as leaders of the party in their respective states, plays critical roles in fostering unity and success at both state and national levels, and stressed the importance of the ongoing collaboration and regular dialogue between the governor’s, the NWC and other party structures.

‘The PDP stands in solidarity with Nigerians facing economic hardships due to poor governance at the federal level, as the party remains committed to providing alternative solution that would restore economic stability, social welfare, and improved governance.

As a formidable political force, the PDP will continue to work towards lifting Nigerians out of the current economic difficulties and delivering on its promise of good governance.

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed had expressed his gratitude to the delegation from the NWC for the visit and their recognition of the strides being made in Bauchi state, assuring that the PDP in the state remains united and committed to democratic values.
