The Katsina State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has commended the Federal House of Representatives for appointing its retired member, Alhaji Abdu Bawa Dutsinma, as Senior Assistant to the Speaker. The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Union’s Chairman, Comrade Tukur Dan-Ali Hassan.
The NUJ praised the appointment, highlighting that Dutsinma’s extensive experience in journalism will significantly enhance the Publicity section of the Federal House of Representatives. The Union believes this move underscores the legislature’s commitment to keeping the public informed about developmental activities and projects carried out by members in their respective constituencies.
Congratulating Dutsinma on his new role, the NUJ expressed confidence that his over three decades of journalistic expertise would contribute positively to the Speaker’s media strategies and those of other legislators.
In a broader call, the NUJ urged politicians and public office holders to prioritize appointing professional journalists to roles related to public relations or media assistance. Such appointments, they argue, will help combat the spread of fake news and uphold ethical journalism.
