In a decisive operation, Nigerian troops, in collaboration with vigilant locals, neutralized 35 bandits in Zamfara State following a fierce two-hour gun battle. The bandits, led by notorious leader Jimmu Sumoli, launched an assault on Matuzgi village in Talatar Mafara Local Government Area, but met stiff resistance from security forces and armed villagers.
The clash resulted in the death of 25 bandits, though tragically, three Matuzgi residents also lost their lives. As the surviving attackers retreated, they were ambushed at Magamin Diddi village in Maradun Local Government Area, where another 10 bandits were killed, bringing the total to 35.
This successful operation comes on the heels of increased bandit activity in the region, with previous attacks targeting villagers for ransom. The swift and coordinated response by the security forces and vigilantes, informed by timely intelligence, has been crucial in disrupting the bandits’ operations and restoring peace in the affected areas.
