To save his life in 1978, a private medical practitioner now based in Brooklyn, New York, USA, Dr Titus Okunlola has donated a brand new Ultrasound machine to former ABUTH Malumfashi, Katsina State.
The presentation was made to the management of the hospital in Malumfashi on his behalf by his childhood friend Alhaji Tijjani Muhammed Aminu, on Sunday, 25th February, 2024
Dr Titus, an indigine of Osun State was a student of Government Secondary School, Musawa in Katsina State in 1978, when he took ill with an attack of meningitis, high fever, vomiting, neck stiffness, severe and excruciating headache for few days and was rushed unconsciously to the then nearby available Hospital in Malumfashi for treatment that he eventually survived.
In his brief remarks at the presentation, read by his close childhood friend, Alhaji Tijjani Muhammed Aminu, Dr Titus revealed that he only came to realise how he was close to dying when he got to medical school at the University.
” Let me quickly add that this is the beginning of our relationship because to whom much is given, it is sensible to say that much is expected from him. This hospital gave me back my life when I was unconscious and literally far gone for days, but the good people of this hospital those days nursed me back to health” he stated
The medical Doctor further explained that, on completion of his secondary education at Musawa after his survival from the illness, he left for Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and worked as a doctor for some years in Lagos before proceeding to America.
The US based Doctor said the movements made him lost contact with the school and Malumfashi, but through the social media he was able to contact some of his school mates who remembered when he was ill and asked if the hospital still exists.
He explained that through the effort of his close childhood friend, Alhaji Tijjani Aminu (who incidently has a friend councillor in Malumfashi, Mustafa Haiba), he was able to establish contact with the hospital administration and the CMD to decide what the hospital needed.
” It has always been at the back of my mind that I need to do something for the good people who gave me so much, which is the reason for our gathering together today to present the machine” he remarked
Dr Titus concluded his presentation remarks ” I, on behalf of the good people of Nigeria, donate this small token of love to be used for the glory of the almighty Allah and hope that this will foster good relationships amongst the various segments of Nigeria”
Speaking on behalf of the hospital and the Malumfashi community respectively, the CMD Dr Abdukazeez Shehu and Alhaji Yakubu Wada, both appreciated the donation and commended the gesture, describing it as given back to the community. They prayed to Alllah SWT to reward him abundantly, while calling on other Nigerians to emulate this good gesture exhibited by Dr. Titus. The CMD also promised to put the machine for the good use of the hospital and the community in general
On ground to received the donation were; the Hospital CMD, Dr Abdulazeez Shehu, strong delegation from the Palace of Galadiman Katsina, District Head of Malumfashi, which included; the Majidadin Galadima, the Sarkin Fulanin Galadima and the Magayakin Galadima
Others were; Alhaji Yakubu Wada Chairman of Malumfashi Foundation, Badamasi Haiba, Secretary General, of Malumfashi Development Association, Alhaji Mustafa Haiba, Mallam Hamisu Liman, Alhaji Tukur Maifada,, Alhaji Muntari Bube and some administrative staff of the hospital.
