Commandant Indabawa Rallies Youth for Peace at International Youth Day Celebration

In a powerful address to a massive crowd of youth, Commandant Jamilu A. Indabawa, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Katsina, made a clarion call for youth to become champions of peace and security.

Speaking at the International Youth Day celebration, themed “Role of Youth in Promoting Safer and Peaceful Communities,” Commandant Indabawa urged the youth to reject violence and embrace their role as guardians of their communities.

Represented by the Corps’ spokesman, DSC Buhari Hamisu, Commandant Indabawa stressed the importance of youth involvement in promoting peace, stating that their efforts are crucial to the state’s and nation’s future.

“Youth should avoid being used by individuals to achieve their selfish interests,” he warned, emphasizing the need for enlightenment campaigns, collaboration, and the sharing of actionable intelligence.

The event, organized by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in partnership with Mercy Corps, highlighted the challenges faced by youth in today’s society.

Commandant Indabawa specifically cautioned against drug abuse, thuggery, and the vandalism of critical infrastructure, urging young people to rise to their potential and preach peace for a better future.

Parents were also called upon to guide their children away from social vices and criminal activities.

The Commandant reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to resolving disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of lives and property.

As the event concluded, the youth were encouraged to leverage the knowledge gained from the occasion to build safer and more secure communities.
