Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, took a prominent role in the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan, held in Djibouti with the participation of 32 countries and numerous regional and international organizations.

The high-stakes meeting focused on crafting a unified strategy to restore peace in Sudan amidst escalating conflict and humanitarian crises.

In his compelling opening speech, Sheikh Shakhboot stressed the urgent need to halt violence and ensure humanitarian aid delivery to Sudanese civilians.

He underscored the critical situation in Sudan, marked by a looming famine and an escalating humanitarian crisis, urging intensified international cooperation for effective resolution.

Sheikh Shakhboot highlighted the UAE’s proactive humanitarian efforts, including $245 million in aid since April 2023 and the establishment of two field hospitals in Chad to support displaced Sudanese.

He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to fostering peace, advocating for an immediate ceasefire, and promoting dialogue among Sudanese factions.”The UAE stands firm in its call for an urgent cessation of violence,” stated Sheikh Shakhboot, emphasizing that a peaceful, negotiated solution is the only viable path forward.

This meeting reflects the international community’s resolve to address the conflict in Sudan, with Sheikh Shakhboot’s participation highlighting the UAE’s leading role in humanitarian and diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region.
