The United Nations has strongly condemned the horrific suicide bomb attacks on civilians in Gwoza, Borno State.
The assaults, which targeted a wedding party on 29 June, have left dozens dead and many more injured.
A non-state armed group is alleged to have used a person-borne improvised explosive device in the initial attack, killing and maiming children, women, and men.
Two additional attacks followed later that day, exacerbating the tragedy.”I am horrified by this attack on civilian populations and condemn such acts in the strongest terms,” said the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria.
“We stand in solidarity with the Government of Nigeria, and the families and communities of all those affected.
“The United Nations has reiterated the need for all parties to the conflict to adhere to international humanitarian law and protect civilians.
UN has offered its support to the Borno State Government and is ready to assist the victims of these brutal attacks.
