In a stunning Democracy Day revelation, Hon. Gabriel Dewan, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, declared that Nigerian leaders have failed their citizens.
Speaking in Jos, Dewan lamented that despite 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, Nigeria lags behind nations that adopted democracy much later.
“Considering our abundant natural resources, we should be miles ahead.
Yet, our leaders have squandered opportunities, achieving a mere 7% performance rating since 1999,” Dewan stated.
He highlighted the irony of top officials seeking services abroad while neglecting domestic infrastructure.
Dewan’s call for a patriotic overhaul of leadership practices underscores the urgent need for a true democracy that serves its people.
