Governor Radda Leads Peace Mission to US

Ten influential governors from Northern Nigeria, including Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina, are set to embark on a pivotal journey to the United States for the Governor’s Symposium on Peace and Security in Northern Nigeria.

Organized by the esteemed Africa Center at the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), this exclusive event has garnered attention for its mission to tackle the region’s pressing security challenges.

Scheduled for April 23 to 25, 2024, in Washington, DC, the symposium will bring together state governors, key U.S. government officials, Congressional staff, and NGO partners.

The agenda is laser-focused on empowering these leaders to navigate conflict prevention and bolster peacebuilding efforts within Nigeria.

Recognizing the critical role of governors in stabilizing security and fostering peace, the symposium aims to equip them with enhanced capabilities in conflict resolution and peacebuilding strategies.

Through collaborative dialogues, the Africa Center aims to address root causes of instability and fortify peace initiatives at local and state levels.

In one of the symposium’s highlights, a special panel discussion led by Tom Sheehy, a Distinguished Fellow from the United States, will delve into strengthening commercial ties and two-way trade between Nigeria and the United States.

This session aims to foster partnerships among governors, Nigerian civic groups, private enterprises, and the global community to stimulate investments, create jobs, and spur economic growth.

The symposium promises to be a pivotal moment in shaping the future of Northern Nigeria’s security landscape, with Governor Radda and his counterparts poised to engage in robust discussions, share insights, and forge actionable strategies towards sustainable peace and development in the region.
