CP Naziru Abdulmajid, officially assumed duty as the 43rd Commissioner of Police for Borno State, pledging to uphold professionalism, community engagement, and relentless pursuit of peace amid the state’s ongoing security challenges.
Addressing officers, media representatives, CP Abdulmajid expressed deep humility and a sense of duty as he took over leadership of the Borno State Police Command.
He extended his gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for the confidence reposed in him to steer the command through a critical period marked by security complexities.
He paid tribute to his predecessor, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, psc (Rtd), acknowledging his leadership’s solid foundation and wishing him success in his future endeavors.
The new police chief emphasized his commitment to building on this legacy by adopting a professional, intelligence-led, and community-oriented policing approach.
A Focus on Security and Community Partnership
CP Abdulmajid acknowledged the resilience of Borno’s residents despite the adversity faced over the years. He assured the public that his administration would be relentless in its efforts to sustain and enhance gains made in combating insurgency, crime, and other threats to public safety.
He outlined key strategic initiatives, including increased visibility policing, strengthened collaboration with sister security agencies, and deeper engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, community groups, and the media. “Security is a shared responsibility,” he stated, urging the community to cooperate by sharing information and fostering mutual trust.
Calls for Public Cooperation and Police Integrity
The police commissioner also appealed to Borno residents to support the police through cooperation and trust.
“My doors remain open to suggestions and constructive engagement,” he affirmed, emphasizing transparency and community participation as vital components of effective policing”.
Addressing the officers and men of the command, CP Abdulmajid issued a stern warning against misconduct. “Professionalism, discipline, and adherence to core values are non-negotiable. Corruption, human rights abuses, and unethical conduct will not be tolerated,”
He declared, promising a renewed commitment to integrity and service excellence.
Optimism for a Safer Borno
Concluding his speech, CP Abdulmajid expressed optimism that, through collective effort, the police can restore and strengthen public confidence, fostering an environment where residents can live, work, and thrive in peace.
He reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that Borno remains secure and conducive for development.
