Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, joined the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, alongside other dignitaries and worshippers, to observe the two Raka’at Eid al-Adha prayer at the Shehu’s Palace grounds in Maiduguri.
The prayer, which drew hundreds of faithful from across the city, was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Imam Shettima Mamman Saleh, and held at the popular Ramat Square.
Delivering his sermon after the congregational prayer, Imam Saleh urged Muslims to emulate the example of Prophet Ibrahim by embracing the spirit of sacrifice, obedience, and unwavering faith in God. He called on affluent members of society and humanitarian organizations to extend their hands in charity—particularly to displaced persons and vulnerable returnees—so they may also experience the joy of the festival.
The Imam also emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence, gratitude to Almighty Allah, and continued prayers for lasting peace in Borno and the nation at large.
Among those present at the prayer were Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno; Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan; APC State Chairman, Bello Ayuba; Secretary to the State Government, Bukar Tijani; Head of Civil Service, Dr. Muhammad Ghuluze; Acting Chief of Staff, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Mallumbe; and several members of the House of Representatives and senior government officials.
Earlier in a special Sallah message, Governor Zulum congratulated the Muslim community and called for unity in addressing the lingering security challenges facing the state.
“I extend my heartfelt greetings to the Ummah as we mark this important occasion of Eid al-Adha,” he said. “This is a time to reflect on the values of patience, devotion, and selflessness as taught by Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Let us not forget to pray for our courageous soldiers and civilian volunteers whose commitment allows us to celebrate in peace.”
The Governor also spoke on the outcomes of his recent visits to several local government areas, including Marte, Rann, Gamboru Ngala, Dikwa, Kukawa, and Monguno. “These visits have strengthened my belief in the resilience of our people,” Zulum said. “I remain committed to investing heavily in security and making the necessary sacrifices to secure lasting peace for Borno State.”
