Once divided by bitterness, court battles, and political heat, the ancient Ewa people of Yobe State are now telling a different story—one of healing, unity, and royal wisdom.
When the Potiskum Emirate was carved out from Fika in the early 2000s, it ignited more than just a boundary dispute. Between 2000 and 2012, the region saw fierce legal battles, communal clashes, and a sharp divide among its people. The once-harmonious land was shaken by rivalry between two thrones.
But today, in a heartwarming twist of history, the Emirs of Fika and Potiskum have embraced peace over pride.
The two royal fathers now sit side by side at public events, exchange visits, and jointly champion the development of their people. Their renewed bond is not only a victory for Yobe but a shining example of leadership and forgiveness.
This royal reconciliation is a mirror Kano State must look into. As political and traditional crises threaten to divide one of Nigeria’s most historic cities, the path chosen by the Ewa people offers a compelling alternative—dialogue, forgiveness, and unity.
“Our tradition is not a tool for division but a bridge to harmony,” said a community elder in Potiskum.

Let Kano and the rest of Nigeria take notes. Unity is possible. Peace is priceless. And history always remembers those who choose reconciliation over rivalry.
