Former Presidential aide Bashir Ahmad has called out Sahara Reporters for spreading what he described as a “reckless and wicked fabrication” involving a woman falsely identified as Zainab Muhammad from Zamfara State.
In a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Ahmad revealed the truth behind the viral image: “This is the original video Sahara Reporters shamelessly took a screenshot from. The lady’s name is Aaliyah—not Zainab. She’s not even Nigerian. She’s originally from Mali and a U.S. citizen.”
Ahmad accused the news platform of manufacturing a false narrative that the woman had renounced Islam and was to be charged in a Sharia court. He clarified that Aaliyah never made such claims in the video, which had been grossly misrepresented.
Sahara Reporters, in their usual fashion, twisted the story, changed her identity, and pushed a fake narrative just to stir controversy and provoke hatred toward Islam and the North, Ahmad stated.
The revelation has sparked fresh criticism of media ethics and the dangers of misinformation, especially on sensitive religious and cultural issues. As of press time, Sahara Reporters has not responded to the allegations.
