Tensions flared in Lagos over the weekend as allegations of fraud marred the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship primaries in Eti-Osa Local Government Area, sparking outrage among supporters of one of the leading aspirants.
Supporters stormed the APC secretariat and took to the streets of Eti-Osa on Sunday, accusing party officials of manipulating delegate lists and pre-selecting a favored candidate before voting began. Chanting protest songs and waving placards, they demanded transparency and immediate intervention from the party’s national leadership.
“This is not democracy. They hijacked the process and denied the people their choice,” said one visibly angry supporter.
The embattled aspirant, whose name is being withheld pending official statements, has vowed to challenge the outcome, describing the exercise as a “mockery of internal democracy.”
Party officials have yet to release an official result or respond to the allegations, but sources within the APC hinted that a reconciliation meeting may be held this week to address grievances and avoid further escalation.
The controversy has cast a shadow over the ruling party’s credibility ahead of the 2025 local council elections, with many observers warning that unresolved internal disputes could weaken the APC’s grip on Lagos politics.
