In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, Sudan has officially cut all diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), branding the Gulf nation as an “aggressor state.” The bold declaration was made public late Monday following what Khartoum described as “hostile acts” by the UAE that threaten Sudan’s sovereignty and internal stability.
In a statement released by Sudan’s Foreign Ministry, the government accused Abu Dhabi of backing rebel factions and meddling in the country’s affairs under the guise of humanitarian assistance. “This is a clear violation of international norms and an open declaration of aggression against the people of Sudan,” the statement read.
Sudan has recalled its diplomats from the UAE and given Emirati envoys 48 hours to leave Khartoum. The move comes amid reports of worsening proxy conflicts in the region, with the UAE increasingly being accused of playing a covert role in the ongoing civil strife in Sudan.
Analysts warn that the breakdown in relations could have ripple effects across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea corridor, regions already fraught with instability.
The UAE has yet to issue an official response.
