The Borno State Police Command has confirmed that the series of loud explosions heard across Maiduguri on Tuesday night were the result of a friendly-fire incident, not a terrorist attack.
In an official statement released on May 1, 2025, the Police clarified that the blasts originated from the armory at Giwa Barracks, likely triggered by internal factors. Preliminary investigations rule out any enemy action, and authorities have since contained the situation.
Emergency response teams, including Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts, fire service units, and security personnel, swiftly moved to the scene and have successfully brought the blaze under control.
ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the Police Public Relations Officer, urged the public to stay calm and ignore speculative rumors. “There is no threat to public safety, and all necessary measures are in place,” he said.
The Police Command assured residents that further updates would be shared as investigations progress.
