A deadly exchange of gunfire between police operatives and suspected bandits in the Zaki-Biam area of Benue State has led to the death of a notorious criminal identified as Akumave Shogodo.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of April 29 around 6:30 a.m., followed detailed intelligence gathered by the Benue State Police Command’s Tactical Team. Acting on the tip-off, officers raided a suspected hideout used by the criminal gang.
Upon arrival, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers, triggering a fierce gun battle. The police team, using superior firepower, overpowered the assailants during the operation.
Shogodo, who was said to have played a major role in numerous violent attacks in the area, sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation. He was rushed to a nearby medical facility but was pronounced dead shortly after.
A locally-made short firearm was recovered from the scene, while several other gang members escaped with injuries. A manhunt is currently underway to track down the fleeing suspects.
