Swift Police Action Foils Kidnapping in Imo: Two Women Rescued Unharmed

Katsina state government

In a dramatic overnight operation, security forces in Imo State successfully rescued two women, Mrs. Constance Chinwe Araoyinvo and Mrs. Olamide Akigbe, who were kidnapped by suspected IPOB/ESN members.

The duo was abducted on April 24, 2025, at Anara in Isiala Mbano LGA while heading to Umulolo Obo Village to buy bread after a service of songs for their late father. Traveling in a Honda vehicle, they fell into the hands of armed men who swiftly whisked them away.

However, luck ran out for the kidnappers as the Okigwe North Surveillance Team, under the directive of the Acting Police Commissioner, launched a rapid rescue mission. By 12:45 a.m. on April 25, along the Umuahia-Okigwe Expressway, the team rescued the victims without harm and recovered their vehicle.

The women have since been reunited with their grieving family, just in time for their father’s burial rites. Meanwhile, a manhunt is underway to bring the fleeing suspects to justice.
