Gov. Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto state has charged members of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC to embrace hard work, determination, and patriotism as they embark on national service year.m
Aliyu made the call during the opening of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course and Swearing-In Ceremony of corps members at Wamakko NYSC Orientation Camp.
Aliyu, represented by Alhaji Mustapha Kofar Marke, the Commissioner for Ministry of Sports and Youths Development, urged the corps members to acquire skills that would be beneficial to them after the service.
He also encouraged the corps members to leverage on their proficiency in ICT to key into the digital literacy trainings
The governor also urged the corps members to take advantage of the state’s agricultural value chain, aimed at feeding the nation, to become self-reliant.
Earlier in her welcome address, Alhaji Usman Yakubu Yaro, NYSC Coordinator in Sokoto stare, charged the corps members to uphold the values of the scheme and make meaningful contributions to nation-building.
Yaro emphasised that orientation course was designed to familiarise the corps members with the scheme’s objectives and prepare them for the expectations of the service year.
He highlighted the NYSC objective of promoting integration and unity was the reason for the deployment of individuals from diverse backgrounds to Sokoto.
H further said the various skills acquisition programmes in the camp were aimed to instill values of self-reliance, self-development, and wealth creation in the corps members.
Also speaking, Chairman of NYSC Governing Board, emphasised the NYSC’s role in promoting unity amongst youths from diverse backgrounds.
The oath was administed by Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Maigwandu and the event witnessed series of awareness and recreational activities.
