The Northern region of Nigeria, currently comprising of nineteen states has faulted the President Tinubu-led administration for deliberate sidelining and marginalizing the region to the detriment to the southern region counterpart in terms of development and economic policies.
According to the region’s critical stakeholders, the Tinubu administration has inherited a concept of retarding the North economically and developmentally which enslaves inhabitants of the region that started when the country returned to democratic rule of the fourth republic in 1999.
The critical stakeholders under the tutelage of Bauchi state Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (BACCIMA), said the concept implementation started with the dogma of insecurity christened ‘Boko Haram’ under which several other negative plans are being carried out in running down the North.
The BACCIMA President, Hon. Aminu Mohammed at a press conference in Bauchi, noted that the Northern region has been bastardized in virtually every aspect of economic growth and development, including infrastructural collapse and retardation.
Hon. Mohammed who holds the traditional title of Dan-malikin Bauchi, said that the North is today witnessing the collapse of infrastructure, added “We are living with the daily consequences of unrealiable electricity, broken roads, insecurity, and a generation of youth with no jobs and little hope”.
“Our industries are choking, communities struggling, with the federal gaze yet seems to have turn away, with the situation reflecting a deep sense of marginalization and systematic neglect that many inhabitants of Northern Nigeria are today feeling”.
Hon. Aminu Dan-maliki who vowed to say ‘Enough is Enough’, recalled that the scourge of Boko Haram is being fueled by forces outside the North with their cohorts within Nigeria led by America and it’s western allies, which not only destroyed lives, driven away investors, but also crippled the local economies with the sole aim of destroying the North.
Dan-maliki therefore called on the federal government, intelligent agencies and international partners to investigate and expose the sponsors of insecurity which, he argued, the federal government knew them, stressing that the North must be safe for growth, while peace is not just a privilege, but a right to each and every Nigerian.
