Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has described the Matatiele child rape case as a “complex and delicate” investigation, revealing that no DNA belonging to any other individual was found on the seven-year-old victim at the centre of the shocking allegation.
Speaking to reporters, Mchunu confirmed that forensic results did not link any suspect to the crime, intensifying public frustration in a case already hampered by the absence of eyewitnesses.
“This is not a straightforward investigation,” the minister said. “We’re dealing with a case that lacks direct witnesses and now, with no foreign DNA present, we’re forced to explore all other possible angles.”
The case, which has gripped the small Eastern Cape town, continues to raise concerns over the slow pace of justice and the challenges of prosecuting sexual violence in rural areas. Mchunu assured the public that police would not relent until the truth is uncovered.
