INEC Rejects Petition to Recall Senator Natasha, Cites Constitutional Shortcomings

Katsina state government

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has declared the petition seeking to recall Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central Senatorial District as legally insufficient.

INEC, in a statement, clarified that the petition failed to meet the constitutional threshold set by Section 69(a) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). This section mandates that a recall petition must be signed by at least half of the registered voters in the senator’s district before it can proceed.

With this ruling, the recall attempt hits a major legal roadblock, reaffirming the stringent constitutional requirements for removing an elected lawmaker.
