In a major boost to access to clean water in the Lake Chad region, the Multinational Joint Task Force MNJTF has commissioned a solar-powered borehole in Gouldjouwan, a community located about 10 kilometers from Mora, Cameroon. The facility, equipped with a 10-cubic-meter reservoir, is set to provide residents with a reliable source of safe drinking water.
The commissioning ceremony, presided over by the MNJTF Commander, Major General Goodwin Michael Mutkut, was attended by key military commanders from Sector 1 in Mora, MNJTF headquarters staff, and representatives from the International Defense Council. General Mutkut emphasized that the initiative, made possible with support from the European Union and its partners, underscores the critical role of clean water as a fundamental human necessity.
Encouraging the local community to use the facility responsibly, he noted that proper management could pave the way for similar projects in the future. Sector 1 Commander, Colonel Tiokap Pierre Loti, highlighted the strong collaboration between the military and civilians in achieving this milestone and called for sustained support from partners to extend such initiatives to other communities.
Brigadier General (Retd.) Stéphane Caiazzo, representing the International Defense Council, described the facility as state-of-the-art, featuring solar-powered filtration, high-pressure pumps, and automated water dispensers. He stressed that the project, funded by the EU in partnership with the MNJTF and the International Defense Council (DCI), is part of efforts to support the return of internally displaced persons affected by Boko Haram insurgency.
Mora’s municipal representative, Mr. Zake Bukar, expressed deep gratitude to the MNJTF, stating that the project is a testament to the force’s unwavering commitment to community welfare and improving access to clean water in Gouldjouwan.
