Troops Crush Retaliatory Attack Over Bandit Kingpin’s Death, Eliminate 40 Terrorists in Zamfara

Katsina state government

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with local vigilantes known as Askarawa, have successfully repelled a large-scale retaliatory attack by armed bandits in Mada, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing at least 40 terrorists.

The onslaught followed the elimination of a notorious bandit leader, Alhaji Sani Dan Garin Bawa, in an earlier military operation. Intelligence sources revealed that the bandits, led by a commander identified as Dogo Hamza, mobilized hundreds of fighters on motorcycles, converging in Manya village before launching their assault on March 11.

Acting on intelligence, troops swiftly engaged the marauding gunmen in a fierce gun battle, preventing them from overrunning Mada. As the firefight intensified, some bandits infiltrated the town, firing indiscriminately. However, reinforcements from the Nigerian Army arrived just in time, crushing the terrorists’ advance and preventing destruction, looting, or abductions.

Eyewitnesses reported that the battle raged for hours, with security forces and vigilantes overpowering the attackers. “We counted about 40 bandits killed, but sadly, four civilians were caught in the crossfire,” a source disclosed.

Following the confrontation, troops reinforced security in Mada to prevent further incursions. The killing of Sani Dan Garin Bawa is seen as a major victory in the war against banditry, as he was responsible for countless attacks, kidnappings, and cattle rustling in the region.
