Kaduna’s bandit turf war has claimed another high-profile casualty as a notorious gang leader, known as “Shekau” due to his brutal reputation, was ambushed and killed by a rival faction along the Narewo River bank in Kachia Local Government Area (LGA).
Intelligence sources confirmed that the ambush was orchestrated by Shumo, a bandit leader from Ragadada, Buruku in Birnin Gwari LGA, seeking revenge for an earlier attack by Shekau. The slain bandit had reportedly seized Shumo’s weapons and killed several of his fighters, prompting the deadly counterstrike.
The operation, executed on March 5, 2025, left Shekau and some of his key lieutenants dead. Sources revealed that their bodies were buried by individuals identified as Yellow Million, Baba Kusa, and an imam from Kabode village, Kachia LGA.
While Kaduna State has witnessed a significant reduction in banditry due to ongoing non-kinetic efforts by the government and security agencies, fierce rivalries among criminal factions continue to fuel bloodshed, with multiple casualties reported in recent weeks.
