As the holy month of Ramadan begins, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Yobe State Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Retd), has called on Muslims across the state to be vigilant and security-conscious while observing their religious obligations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, General Abdulsalam emphasized the need for extra caution, particularly in crowded places such as mosques, markets, and public gathering areas, where threats to public safety may arise. He urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly, stressing that security is a collective responsibility.

“As we enter this sacred period of fasting and prayers, I urge all Muslims in Yobe State to be mindful of their surroundings and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety and that of others. Security agencies are on high alert, but we also need the full cooperation of the people to keep our communities safe,” he stated.

The retired Brigadier General, who has played a key role in enhancing security strategies across Yobe State, highlighted the increased movement of people during Ramadan, especially at night when Muslims gather for Taraweeh prayers and pre-dawn meals (Suhur). He noted that such times could be exploited by criminal elements if preventive measures are not taken.

Collaboration with Security Agencies

General Abdulsalam assured residents that the Yobe State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni, has taken significant steps to bolster security throughout the fasting period. He disclosed that security forces, including the military, police, and civil defense corps, have been deployed to strategic locations to prevent any threats.

“Our security agencies are working tirelessly to safeguard lives and property. However, they rely on timely and accurate information from the public. If you notice anything unusual, do not hesitate to report it to the nearest security post,” he advised.

He also encouraged religious and community leaders to enlighten worshippers about safety measures during Ramadan, urging them to cooperate with security personnel in maintaining order.

Preventing Criminal Activities

The security adviser warned against potential criminal activities such as theft, fraud, and violent attacks, which tend to increase during festive periods. He urged residents to secure their homes and avoid unnecessary late-night movements.

He also cautioned against the use of fireworks, which could cause panic and confusion, potentially leading to false alarms and security breaches.

“Let us observe Ramadan with a sense of responsibility and caution. Avoid activities that may put you or others at risk. Together, we can create a safe and peaceful environment for all,” he stated.

Appeal for Prayers and Unity

Brigadier General Abdulsalam further called on Muslims to use the holy month to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in Yobe State and Nigeria at large. He stressed the importance of unity among different communities, urging people to extend kindness and generosity to the less privileged.

“As we seek Allah’s blessings, let us also pray for the continued peace and development of our dear state. May this Ramadan bring harmony, progress, and divine protection for all,” he concluded.

Residents are encouraged to remain law-abiding and cooperate with authorities to ensure a hitch-free Ramadan across Yobe State.
