Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, Safiyanu Dalhatu, for allegedly murdering his mother, Salama Abdullahi, with a pestle in the Abujan Kwata area of Bauchi.
According to Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the shocking incident occurred on February 24 at about 3:00 p.m. It was reported by members of the local Peace and Security Committee.
“The suspect allegedly attacked his mother with a heavy pestle, causing severe fractures to her hands and other injuries. Despite efforts to save her life at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital, she was later confirmed dead,” Wakil revealed.
Preliminary investigations suggest a domestic dispute led to the fatal assault. Following the report, a police team led by CSP Abdullahi Muazu swiftly arrested Dalhatu and recovered the pestle used in the attack.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough probe. The suspect will face charges in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Authorities urge residents to seek conflict resolution through peaceful means, warning against violence in family disputes.
