Tragedy struck in Kashimbila, Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State, as four Fulani herders lost their lives, and two others were hospitalized after consuming a poisonous fish.
According to intelligence sources, the victims—Abdul Juli, Sule Abubakar, Adamu Mato, Saidu Payo, Yusuf Musa, and Ibrahim Haruna—set out on a fishing expedition on February 22 at about 10 p.m. Unaware of the danger, they caught and cooked a toxic species of fish, which led to a severe health crisis.
By the following day, February 23, the six men were rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kashimbila. However, four of them—Juli, Abubakar, Mato, and Payo—succumbed to the poisoning, while Musa and Haruna are currently receiving medical care.
The incident was reported to the police by a resident, Haruna Isiaka of Chidawa Village. Authorities have deposited the bodies at the hospital mortuary for autopsy, as investigations into the mysterious poisoning continue.
