In a major breakthrough against banditry, security forces in Katsina State have arrested a medical practitioner accused of treating notorious criminals, including the wanted bandit kingpin Usman Modi Modi, who has a ₦50 million bounty on his head.
The suspect, identified as Lawan Ado from Safana Local Government Area, was captured following intelligence reports linking him to the medical care of wounded bandits. In a video circulating on social media and obtained by Zagazola Makama, Ado confessed to treating several injured criminals at their hideouts.
According to his confession, his first patient was Usman Modi Modi, who had been wounded in a clash with the Yan Kyanbara vigilante group. “He was first taken to a hospital in Taskiya, but two days later, they brought me to treat him further. I was paid ₦18,000 for my service,” he admitted.
Ado also revealed that he treated other high-profile bandits, including Mai Kudi, who paid ₦8,000 after being shot in Kurfi, and Audu, an aide to Usman Modi Modi, who also paid ₦8,000. Another notorious bandit, Dogo Mardi, sought his services after sustaining gunshot wounds in a robbery operation, paying ₦11,000.
Further investigations indicate that Ado had traveled across multiple locations to treat criminals, including a bandit identified as Karanboguwa and several others. His arrest marks a significant win in the fight against banditry, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle networks aiding criminal elements.
