The Gammun Centre for Care and Development Nigeria, in collaboration with the Kano State Government, has launched the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative (KHAI) to raise awareness about hypertension and promote healthy lifestyles.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, which are responsible for over 17.9 million deaths worldwide each year.

In Nigeria, hypertension is a significant public health concern, with an estimated 44.9% of adults living with the condition.

The KHAI project, funded by the Global Health Advocacy Initiative (GHAI), aims to carry out a sustainable and comprehensive advocacy campaign to strengthen hypertension prevention, treatment, and control in Kano State.

“We are committed to reducing the burden of hypertension in Kano State,” said Mr. Tulari Tine, the Executive Director of the Gammun Centre for Care and Development Nigeria.

“Through the Kano Hypertension Advocacy Initiative (KHAI), we hope to advocate for government support to current hypertension services, provide access to free hypertension medication, and scale up hypertension model facilities to the remaining 22 local government areas.”

The initiative includes a series of advocacy initiatives, awareness campaigns, community outreach programs, and strengthening patient groups.

The Gammun Centre for Care and Development is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting a healthy and just society.

This initiative is a significant step towards addressing the growing burden of hypertension in Kano State.

By raising awareness and promoting healthy lifestyles, the KHAI project aims to reduce the number of hypertension-related deaths and improve the overall health and well-being of the people of Kano State.
