The kidnappers of retired General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), have demanded a staggering N250 million ransom for his release.
A family source, who spoke anonymously, confirmed that the abductors made contact on Friday night, setting their demand. Tsiga was kidnapped alongside several residents of Tsiga village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on Wednesday after gunmen stormed his residence.
During the attack, two residents sustained injuries, while one of the kidnappers was mistakenly shot dead by his colleagues.
Confirming the incident, the Katsina State Police Command assured that it was “on top of the situation” and working with security agencies to ensure Tsiga’s rescue. Police spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq, while reviewing the command’s January crime-fighting achievements, disclosed that 45 suspects had been arrested for various crimes within the period.
Katsina remains one of the North-Western states grappling with relentless bandit attacks. In a bid to curb the menace, Governor Dikko Umar Radda launched the Katsina Community Watch Corps (KCWC) in 2023, deploying 2,000 vigilantes to assist security forces.
As efforts intensify to rescue the ex-NYSC boss, the latest abduction underscores the growing security challenges in the region.
