Debate Before Decision: Calls Mount Against Scrapping 6-3-3-4 System Without Consultation

Katsina state government

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s education sector have warned against the outright abolition of the 6-3-3-4 education system without thorough consultations. Teachers’ unions, student bodies, education experts, school administrators, parents’ associations, academics, and examination bodies insist that a decision of such magnitude must be subjected to public debate.

They argue that while reforms may be necessary, imposing a new structure by fiat could create chaos in an already fragile system. “We need an inclusive approach that considers the strengths and weaknesses of the current model before making drastic changes,” an education expert stated.

Stakeholders are urging the National Assembly to organize a nationwide public debate before any final decision is made, ensuring that the future of Nigeria’s education system is shaped by collective wisdom rather than hasty policy shifts.
