96% Drop in Gas Flaring: NNPC Ltd  First E&P Set New Environmental Standard

In a groundbreaking achievement for Nigeria’s energy sector, the NNPC Ltd and First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company Limited (First E&P) Joint Venture (JV) has successfully reduced routine gas flaring by 96% in the Anyala (OML 83) and Madu (OML 85) fields.

This milestone, achieved through an innovative associated gas (AG) reinjection strategy at the Madu field in Bayelsa State, aligns with Nigeria’s commitment under the Paris Agreement to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 20% unconditionally and 47% conditionally.

NNPC Ltd’s Group CEO, Mele Kyari, hailed the achievement, emphasizing the company’s dedication to responsible resource management and sustainability. First E&P’s MD/CEO, Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, also reaffirmed the JV’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and advancing a greener energy future.

With plans to commercialize stored and stranded gas resources in the Niger Delta, the JV is reinforcing Nigeria’s position in sustainable energy solutions while driving environmental responsibility.
