Zulum Commiserates with Chadian President, Applauds Refugee Support

The Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended his heartfelt solidarity to Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno following the swift containment of a terrorist attack on the Presidential Palace on January 8, 2025.

Governor Zulum commended the Chadian Armed Forces for their prompt response, which ensured President Déby’s safety and preserved Chad’s stability. “It gladdens my heart to note that President Déby was unharmed, and the violent attack was foiled with remarkable efficiency. The peace and security of Chad are crucial for the fragile stability in Borno, given our shared boundary,” Zulum remarked.

The Governor also expressed gratitude for Chad’s ongoing hospitality toward refugees from Borno, who fled Boko Haram insurgency. Since 2014, thousands have found safety in Bagasola and other regions of Chad, where they have been treated with dignity and respect.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to President Déby and his government for upholding the Kampala Convention and offering refuge to our people,” Zulum stated, reaffirming Borno’s support for Chad’s unity and prosperity.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the neighboring regions for sustained peace and development.
