Commissioner Commends Zulum’s Feat In Governance Of Borno

Borno State Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs , Hon Sugun Mai Mele has commended the diogenes and determination of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum in providing dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

The Commissioner said despite the challenges of the Boko Haram insurgency which has seen the economy of the state battered, Governor Zulum amid meagre resources have embarked rebuilding of destroyed communities and resettlement of citizens displaced by the crisis.

Borno State is located at the North Eastern part of Nigeria with a land mass of about 70,898km. The State was created on the 3rd of February, 1976. The State has witnessed numerous Governors both from the Military and civilian rule. The swift transformation of Borno State in terms of infrastructural development has taken numerous Nigerians by surprise.

Mele said this while commenting on the efforts made by Governor Zulum in addressing the recent economic hardship that hit the people which has witnessed extreme high cost of living.

He noted that the State under the leadership of the incumbent Governor, Prof. Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum, has recorded tremendous transformation in terms of infrastructural development, Livelihood support, IGR Growth and Commercial activities improvement.

” The Borno State Government under Babagana Umara Zulum has constructed two fly overs which was considered first of its kind in the North East Region and has also approved the construction of the third fly over in Maiduguri, the Capital City.

” The Livelihood support mechanism initiated by the State Government chaired by my ministry of Local Government and Emirate Affairs has seen the light of the day, as beneficiaries have acknowledged the receipt of the palliative in a peaceful manner at all distribution centers.

” The Distribution Committee has ensured strict adherence to beneficiaries scrutiny and just in their conducts of the distribution,” Mele said.

According to Mele who is the Committee Chairman, the distribution is to cushion the hardship of the subsidy removal by the Federal Government.

“The State Government has instructed the Community members to come up with the beneficiaries base on poverty level. The Target beneficiaries amounted to about 100,000 household across Maiduguri and Jere Local Government respectively. The Palliative distribution is just one among the many interventions of the Governor Zulum’s led Government,” he further said.

Part of the numerous achievements recorded by the Zulum’s administration from 2019 to date is the restoration of GSM lines by supporting the Telecommunications operatives to ensure swift take up. The Rehabilitation of burned down Schools, Resettlement of idps back to their Local Government Headquarters, Rehabilitation of All General Hospitals in the 27 Local Government Areas, Construction of Primary Health Cares in Communities, Restoration of Electricity back to Maiduguri, Return of Traditional leaders to their domain, Restoration of Civil Authority in reclaimed Local Government Areas, Establishment of Skill Acquisition Center, Rehabilitation of Roads and laying of Asphalt in Maiduguri Town among others.

According to the Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, “the Governor’s life was even threatened yet he has been relentless on his cause to better Borno State”.

The Hon. Commissioner who was the longest serving Commissioner in Borno State has also played a vital role in ensuring strict supervision of Local Government Areas affairs to deliver good governance to the People of Borno State. End
