Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has sounded a stern warning to President Tinubu, advising him to avoid an authoritarian approach in handling tax reform bills currently before the National Assembly.
Speaking during an interactive session in Bauchi, the governor emphasized the need for inclusivity, particularly addressing the concerns of Northerners who feel sidelined in the decision-making process.
“Nigeria is a democracy, not a military regime. Tax reforms should not be forced down the throats of citizens without dialogue and consensus,” Bala stated.
He highlighted that the Northern region, with its unique economic and social challenges, requires special consideration to prevent widespread discontent.
The governor urged Tinubu to engage with regional leaders and stakeholders to design reforms that work for all Nigerians.
Bala’s comments have added to the growing debate over Tinubu’s reform agenda, with analysts cautioning the presidency against policies that could alienate certain regions.
