Christians across Borno State have been called to embrace the true spirit of Christmas by focusing on love, peace, and spiritual renewal despite the challenges of the times.
In his heartfelt Christmas message, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State Chapter, Most Rev. Dr. John Bogna Bakeni, extended warm greetings to all Christians, encouraging them to celebrate the birth of Christ with faith and hope.
Rev. Bakeni acknowledged the difficult circumstances facing many Nigerians, including harsh economic conditions, insecurity, and uncertainty. He urged Christians not to be discouraged but to draw strength from the deeper meaning of Christmas.
“The blessings and graces of Christmas far outweigh the temporal challenges we face. This is a time to prepare our hearts and minds for Christ to be reborn in us, transforming our homes, communities, state, and nation into instruments of love and peace,” he said.
The CAN Chairman called on Christians to avoid actions that contradict the essence of the season, such as violence or indulgence, and instead embrace peace, reconciliation, and kindness. He emphasized that love and goodwill should transcend religious, ethnic, and social boundaries during this festive season.
As the New Year approaches, Rev. Bakeni expressed hope for a renewed commitment by both religious and political leaders to uphold justice, equity, peace, and the fear of God in their duties.
“May the joy of Christmas fill your hearts, homes, and communities. Let us celebrate responsibly with family, friends, and neighbors, and pray for a new beginning for our nation,” he added.
The message concluded with a prayer for peace and goodwill, echoing the angelic proclamation: “Glory to God in the highest, and peace to all people of goodwill.”
