Katsina State is witnessing a transformative era in healthcare as Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda revealed a staggering investment of over N5 billion to enhance healthcare infrastructure and services across the state.

Speaking at the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Pharmagrade Warehouse, the Governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to providing quality healthcare. The event also marked the distribution of free Medicare supplies and motorcycles for Tuberculosis and Leprosy surveillance.

Key Highlights of the Governor’s Address:

Scholarship Boost: 546 medical students have received a total of N250 million in scholarship allowances to support their studies at home and abroad.

Pharmaceutical Milestone: Plans are underway to establish the first state-owned pharmaceutical manufacturing company in Northern Nigeria. The facility aims to produce affordable essential drugs, reduce external dependency, and strengthen local supply chains.

Residency Training Programme: A residency programme has been launched for state-owned hospitals to improve human resources, alongside an upward review of doctors’ training allowances.

Expanded Drug Access: The 2025 budget allocates N300 million to expand the drug revolving fund scheme, ensuring more health facilities are equipped with essential medicines.

Pharmagrade Warehouse: A Game-Changer

The new warehouse, supported by UNICEF and the National Product Supply Management Chain Program, features advanced cold rooms for sensitive drug storage, a quality assurance lab, and a drug information center with a hotline to report counterfeit medicines.

Dr. Fatima Shuaibu, Executive Secretary of the State Drugs and Medical Supply Agency, praised the Governor’s support, highlighting the warehouse’s role in transforming drug distribution. She called for further assistance in powering the facility with a solar solution or a robust generator.

Building the Future

Governor Radda reaffirmed his commitment to the Building Your Future blueprint, aimed at revolutionizing healthcare delivery in Katsina. “These interventions are not just investments; they are a testament to our dedication to the health and well-being of every Katsina citizen,” he stated.

As Katsina marches towards a healthier future, Governor Radda’s bold initiatives signal a new dawn for healthcare delivery in the state.
